The Unimagined history of Mount Rushmore
The History of Mount Rushmore :
Mount Rushmore symbolizes American heritage and the values represented by its presidents, making it a key landmark for national identity. The Mount Rushmore is based in famous Black Hills of South Dakota, USA (America), it was dreamed by an historic Doane Robinson who is also known as “The Father of Mount Rushmore”. The name of Mount Rushmore was named after The famous New york Lawyer Charles E. Rushmore. He wants to increament of tourism in South Dakota, for that he choose to initiate this idea to build some famous and great person, for that he went to the famous sculptor Gutzon Borglum.
Gutzon Borglum suppose to build this structure for national icon and to make this as historic for whole world. In 1927, the carving was started and then completed in 1941. The project was expected to finish in 6.5 years but then it take 14 long years due to whether and funding challenges.
Why These Presidents?
The mount rushmore was visioned for tourism attraction but Doana robinson changed to make as great personality sculpture on it, it is 60 feet tall carved faces of four US presidents, These presidents are
- George Washington
- Thomas Jefferson
- Theodore Roosevelt
- Abraham Lincoln

Doane Robinson choose every US President because of there work and contribution in USA.
1) George Washington: Represents the founding of the nation.
2) Thomas Jefferson: Symbolizes the expansion of the U.S. (e.g., Louisiana Purchase).
3) Theodore Roosevelt: Highlights development, particularly economic growth and conservation.
4) Abraham Lincoln: Stands for preservation of the Union during the Civil War.
The Construction and Challenges
The Construction was started earlier in 1927 and visioned to complete in 6.5 years but it actually takes 14 years to complte, this is because the multiple challenges like funding and whether, the fact is estimated cost to build this monument is approximately $989,992.32 nearly a million doller. This monument covers an area of approximately 1,278 acres (5.17 square kilometers).
In 1937, a bill was introduced in the U.S. Congress to add the image of prominent leader Susan B. Anthony to the mountain, but it was rejected. Here is an image mount rushmore before and after
Interestingly, Borglum himself had a grander vision for Mount Rushmore, including a massive inscription to explain the significance of the presidents, but this was never completed. However, he never proposed adding additional presidents or figures beyond the original four.
